Review of Number 37 (2018) by Cecilecoop5 — 19 Feb 2019
I usually am not enthused by crime thrillers, because I’ve always seen them as following the same plot; however, this film completely stood out from the pack. “Number 37” pays homage to Hitchcock’s “Rear Window,” putting the actions in a South African setting and allowing the culture’s social issues to take the film in a direction that gave a view of the poverty and corruption in the country.
Furthermore, I loved that the film took place for the most part in one setting, which gave director Nosipho Dumisa the ability to focus more on the build of the characters’ relationships with one another and the suspenseful story that she was able to fully deliver.
