Review of Now, Voyager (1942) by Philip S — 14 Mar 2009
My favorite Bette Davis film and performance, and, in a tie with SCARAMOUCHE, my favorite film - Although it's been said that Davis wasn't particularly beautiful physically, she sure as hell could ACT beautiful, and does it to perfection here.
She NEVER looked more beautiful on-screen than she does in the scene with Gladys Cooper (playing her domineering mother) and realizes "I"m not afraid, Mother - I'm not afraid!" Davis's believe in her character, her acting, Max Steiner's Oscar-winning music and Sol Polito's lighting and camera all fuse into Davis's most beaiutiful moment on the screen.
