Best Bette Davis film. One of my all time favorites. Davis is perfect. I bet I've watched this 100+ times. Yes it's schmaltzy. Yes there's 40's melodrama with a soundtrack to match. But it's such wonderful schmaltzy melodrama. I wish they made love stories like this nowadays.

Favorite scene: Renee Beauchamp (Davis) disembarking on her first port o call. She's wearing a white fitted suit, and wide brim hat. She's STUNNING. And the last lines, two cigarettes lit together, and Davis says, "oh Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon....we have the stars... (Melodramatic music crescendo) FABulous. Two schmaltzy thumbs up.
