Review of Notting Hill (1999) by Adam S — 06 Feb 2013
Richard Curtis' "Notting Hill" features the exact same strengths - and the same weaknesses - as his previous effort "Four Weddings and a Funeral".
A top notch supporting cast, mostly sourced from popular British sitcoms such as Blackadder's Tim McInnerny, Vicar of Dibley's Emma Chambers and The Thin Blue Line's James Dreyfus, as well as other supporting actors such as Rhys Ifans, Dylan Moran, Alec Baldwin and Emily Mortimer.
These are strong actors who all give it a good shot. But unfortunately, the chemistry between the two leads - Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, is absent, just as Grant and Andie MacDowell's was in Four Weddings.
Both characters fail to grip the audience, and the film suffers for it, despite some genuinely funny moments.
