Review of Notting Hill (1999) by Anna F — 12 Jan 2018
I can't believe the ratings are so high for this movie. If you like cheating, affairs, and stereotypical cheesy romance where people make horrible mistakes and never repent, you will love this. Roberts' practiced, pained smile is convincing at first but tiring as it is her only response to any dialogue.
Silent mystery girl is only so endearing. Super slow and long, bizarre music choices that take me out of what's going on, no insights or moral of the story whatsoever. It had about a two laugh per hour (that's 2 lph) ratio for me, pretty low for a "comedy.
" No character development in any character. Maybe a normal heterosexual romance story isn't for me?
