Review of Notting Hill (1999) by Antonius B — 09 Dec 2017
So Julia Roberts is this world famous actress who apparently has no personality. There is a love story with no real reason shown for anyone falling in love. There are weird, pointless little detours of supposed-to-be sweet touches - like the friends who have true love.
Hey, let's put one of them in a wheelchair. Whatever. The soundtrack is often quite bad. But there are some laughs. The whole thing pivots on the line about the girl standing in front of a boy yada, yada.
That is a very good line. Unfortunately it all leads to the humongously contrived press conference scene. There is an escapist/fantasy element to the whole thing - like, what if that happened to me? That gives it some watchability.
Overall, gotta go thumbs down though. 4.4 out of 10.
