Review of Notes on a Scandal (2006) by Yoli G — 11 Feb 2009
Cate is great! Dench is such a wench! Wow this is really fine film. It brings home a lot of what we hear on the news from the sources' point of view. We all know that it will turn out bad because the decision were not mistakes, just very selfish and BAD choices.
Blanchett once more transforms and capitalizes from her surroundings; she plays off Dench's moe austere demeanor to pop out and become the carefree teacher that is being stifled by her own life. An engrossing story; a plot too often being lived out in reality; a film that puts it all together and answers some of the "why" we ask when we hear the news headlines.
watch for Bill Nighy as the yuppie-like spouse. Tough lesson and strong story.
