Review of Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) by David B — 17 Dec 2011
Not Herzog's best, but fantastic nonetheless. An excellent interpretation of Stoker's novel and a fitting remake of Murnau's classic. There is a real creeping sense of dread in this film, and the imagery is haunting (the captain of the doomed ship strapped to the wheel, the hordes of rats infesting the town, the coffins being carried through the main street as Lucy Harker tries to warn people of the evil).
A word of warning, the subtitling on the Region 2 DVD is terrible. At times, no subtitles appear when a character is clearly speaking. This somewhat spoils an otherwise great movie.
