Review of Nil by Mouth (1997) by W H — 31 Jul 2008
An honest portrayal of life on the council estates of South/East London. Based on Oldman's own experience, the film is so realistic, that at times it is difficult to watch. It's worth seeing though, if for nothing else than the great performances from all the main leads, particularly Ray Winstone and Kathy Burke.
The film gives a real sense of lives being ever characterised by violence and crime. These things are accepted by the characters as the norm, which makes for a very bleak, yet engaging film.
