I'm guessing that most of the negative reviews here are from Americans who don't understand this film at all. I am British so I understand this film 100%. This is the greatest British film ever made! Ray Winstones performance in this is SOOO realistic that it is terrifying!!! The scene where batters his wife is horrifying.
Kathy Burke also gives an excellent performance in the is film. The sequence where Ray is drunk and delivering a long monologue to himself in the mirror, is one of the greatest pieces of acting you will ever see in your entire life! Well done to Gary Oldman, Ray Winstone, Kathy Burke and everyone else who was involved in this film!!
