Review of Nil by Mouth (1997) by Samuel D — 03 Jun 2009
Dysfunction breeds dysfunction in this gritty and very emotional story about a family tormented by an abusive, alcoholic father played by the immense Ray Winstone. A superb British cast, with a number of underrated actors, set deep in the heart of a troubled South East London where I myself unfortunately grew up.
Its moments like these that make Gary Oldman the legend that he is. A truly fantastic film which is oddly personal to me given the setting and some of the plot lines. Depressing, but rewarding at the same time.
