Review of Night of the Living Dead (1968) by Jacob M — 16 Sep 2015
I feel that it would have helped a lot to have been there at the time of it's release. This seems like a movie a movie that is a "you should have been there" movie. In a world where there are things such as 28 Days Later, The walking Dead, and even the Dawn of the Dead remake, this just kind of falls flat.
But regardless of that, it still wins in a critical standpoint. You really have to put yourself in the time period and if you can manage to do that, this will entertain you, the second act especially.
The writing is good, the directing is cool, and the acting is pretty good. It's just that it didn't have the suspense that it probably did back in 1968. You couls also make the argument that 2001: A Space Odyssey was made the same year and it had some good effects for even now, but that probably had a much much larger budget.
Just put youself in George A. Romero's shoes. He practically made a genre with a couple thousand dollars. So just put yourself in the time period and you'll have a good time.
