Review of Night of the Living Dead (1968) by Jak-Luke S — 23 Jul 2017
Limitations aside Romero's film is brilliant at what a filmmaker can achieve in a genre. This film should be screened for all film students around the world and teach them that money does not define what you can achieve.
Aesthetically it works well in monochrome taking inspiration from Hitchcock's Psycho (helping it presumably get by the censor) with a raw and frightening approach, echoing nightmares and doom. Performances are strong throughout with the suspense and tension felt with decent characters that all feel unique.
Its climax is more haunting and socially relevant than ever in this current climate.
