Review of Nashville (1975) by Doron T — 17 Jul 2007
Usually dated is a negative quality in a film. You want a film to be classic and timeless, but with Nashville it's the 1970's look and feel that makes it so memorable. The cheap suits, sideburns, and big hair all add to the party "anything" goes feel to the film, solidifying it as a snapshot in time of American culture.
A long film to be sure,I'll admit that I had to take a break after the first hour and a half. I try my best not to tale breaks but some films you just need to put it down for a bit. Taking time off with Nashville really made a difference. I was rejuvenated and focused for the second and better half of the film. I recommend this to anyone looking to see this movie.
After Barbara Jean sings for the first time is when the film really gets interesting and when we finally see Tom Frank perform, the film reaches another plateau all together.
