Review of My Way (2012) by Orlok W — 23 Jul 2012
Director Kang Je-Kang blew me away with Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War, which is my favorite film ever made. Jang Dong Gun has been on my radar since, and is definitely one of my favorite actors ever.
I've been waiting for My Way for an immensely long time now. Its finally been released today(July 24) on blu ray and it was 100% worth the wait.
For starters, this is the movie that Hollywood directors wish they could make with a 200 million dollar budget. This movie costed a mere 25 million and looks better then Saving Private Ryan. The effects are incredibly real looking and the set pieces will blow your mind.
Jang Dong Gun gives another masterful performance and should get every award under the sun for it.
The movie has one of the best scores I've ever heard in a film and it was perfect for it.
While the movie does follow the formula of Tae Guk Gi, it's a different take on it and it works extremely well.
The movie is flawlessly paced, well acted, looks and sounds beautiful and has some of the best war scenes ever filmed.
The movie is extremely violent and has many moments that might turn some heads. It doesn't shy away from the horrors of war and shows once again what War does to test friendship and love.
5/5. An astonishing film that needs to be watched and has made my top 5 films of all time along with Kang's Original: Tae Guk Gi.
