Review of Monster's Ball (2001) by Creme F — 09 Jul 2009
It truly takes a film like "Monster's Ball" to get every single actor and actress in the cast to execute their roles perfectly. This is one novelty of a movie.
Starting off on an acting opinion, everyone is amazing. Billy Bob Thornton, Halle Berry, and Heath Ledger are all excellent in this film. Even Puffy and Mos Def are good, and that's whats so interesting about this movie. Everyone wanted to do a good job. But obviouslly the best acting job is done by Halle Berry, who was simply amazing throughout the entire movie. Her emotions and her character are conveyed amazingly onto the screen and she did exactly what she needed to do.
From a technical point of view of the film, it is also excellent. The picture quality and cinematography are all excellent for 2001, and I was very impressed with how the whole movie was laid out. The sound and texture of the movie, really made me want to pay more attention, and this was a big advantage for the movie, during some dull scenes. One thing that I might like to add, is the music, which I think is one song, and plays for only a little bit in key scenes. For me, this is perfect. I love the slow quite soothing melody, especially in a film like this. Movies like Crash also do this, and I like it a lot.
Overall the film is quite good. It's not amazing, but it has a sort of a feel to it, a sentimentality, and the films emotions keep us staring at the screen until the final credit.
