Review of Mommy (2014) by Richard D — 05 May 2015

I really am not fond of Xavier Dolan, but damn if he didn't (mostly) win me over with this one. Not completely. I rather intensely dislike his characters, which has always been my main problem with his films, and it's fairly clear that he likes his characters a lot.

It usually stops me from getting swept up by his films ... here I ended up being along for the ride. The majority of this film is framed at a peculiar 1:1 ratio, which seems like a gimmick until the film opens up to 1.

85:1 for a key sequence. That sequence alone was enough to really win me over.
