Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by Tvjerry — 02 Oct 2016
Think of this as a kinder, gentler X-Men: These children have mutant powers, but not as cool or as useful. Asa Butterfield is a teen who discovers these unusual creatures that live in "time loops.
" While the setup shows potential, the payoff is pretty flat. There are only occasional glimpses of their gifts and too much dull dialogue. There is an "adventure" that enlists of all them in a fight against evil creatures, but it's lacking in excitement or originality.
The fantastical flourishes or visual inventiveness that you'd expect from director Tim Burton are lacking. The whole thing is a relatively flat rendition of the book.
