Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by Late R — 15 Aug 2017
The premise is interesting and the visuals nice enough, but Burton doesn't push the envelope far enough on either of them -- the story lacks emotion and is too predictable, too safe; the visuals are not quite as fantastical as one would expect from the iconic director.
That being said, it is made for children and I suppose you can only take things so far. And so it ends up being a nice little, family-friendly film that'll entertain the young and won't bore adults to death, but it is certainly a lot less special than you'd hope for.
