Review of Misery (1990) by Cooperward4 — 31 Oct 2019
Misery is a very suspenseful and thought provoking thriller with such amazing performances and superb direction. The film is the story about what would happen if a crazed fanatic met their hero. Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes in this film is sensational.
Her range of acting is incredible as she is able to go from a sweet and caring individual to a psychotic, delusional and insane fanatic. She portrays this character so brilliantly and I believe that if she wasn't in the film to portray her, the film would suffer without her performance.
Another amazing character is our protagonist Paul Sheldon, played by James Caan. His nuanced performance makes make you sympathise with his character and truly feel for him in many horrific scenes throughout the movie.
What truly makes this film great is the amount of suspense throughout. Our main antagonist Annie is so unpredictable because of her range that simply put you have no idea whats going to happen next. It leaves you on the edge of your seat constantly, biting your nails as you anxiously await what will happen next.
One factor I also loved about the film was the fantastic cinematography. The film incorporates so many amazing close ups and panning shots which make the film so much more appealing to the eye. This film is such an enthralling experience which leaves you on the edge of your seat constantly and keeps you invested in its amazing character portrayals throughout.
