Review of Misery (1990) by Sam M — 07 Oct 2017
Wow what amazing performances from Kathy Bates (Anne Wilkes) and James Caan (Paul Sheldon)! The film was thrilling throughout. Exploring the mind of a deranged fan who keeps her favorite author captive, the movie thrills generated by this film are not typical.
The vulnerable victim is not the usual female, but a male. Aside from kidnapping Sheldon, Wilkes was deeply disturbed person who killed newborns at her previous job as a head nurse at a hospital. The majority of the film took place in the room Sheldon was confined to, evoking feelings of claustrophobia and uneasiness, but it is effective in adding to the urgency that we must get out.
This is one of the best Stephen King based movies.
