Review of Milk? (2012) by Brad S — 13 Nov 2011
Three people started watching this movie - two of them fell asleep. This might suggest that Milk isn't the most exciting movie. The other problem with Milk is that the general audience will probably remember it for certain scenes and not a movie as a whole (see the Crying Game).
Having said this Milk tackles controversial subject matter and tells the story of gay rights activist Harvey Milk. His life was certainly interesting and definetely complex. The movie appears to be fair, at least in its portrayal of Milk, and the isssues that homosexual men face on a daily basis. Milk's life is not sugar coated and his relationships are told for what they were. I would have liked to have understood Dan White's character a bit better. Was he homophobic or just upset that he'd lost his job, he's a mystery. I suppose history will decide if Milk's life was really as important as this movie makes it out to be. He certainly did impact the lives of those who knew him.
