Review of Milk? (2012) by Daniel A — 11 Jan 2015
Propelled by a brilliant performance from Sean Penn, Milk is a hopeful and informative political biopic that feels authentic, largely thanks to its Oscar-winning screenplay and passionate cast. As an outsider looking in, it seems clear to me that Americans are historically a very politically charged people, however the politics they profess are often so clearly not what's in their best interest, it amazes me that they continue to show their support so vehemently.
Milk shows a time in American history where one man tried to resolve such an issue, bringing real progression to a politics too laden in tradition and religious fear-mongering, and in it's presentation of this it vastly succeeds.
Delivering emotional satisfaction and a feeling of genuine importance, Milk is a film that the gay community can support with real pride, and watch as it inspires more of us to make a stand just like Harvey Milk.
