Review of Milk? (2012) by David S — 11 Apr 2015
Milk is a very well acted film about real issues that many people have had to live with through history to today. It is a film that is relevant on many more platforms than homosexuality, and depicts the power of the people and the voice in a very strong manner.
It manages to balance all sub-plots tastefully; the intimate scenes, the violent scenes, the passionate vocal charges, each holds enough tenure to be powerful, yet shows enough restraint not to be over the top.
Seeing Sean Penn in this kind of role is surprisingly different, and is testament to his versatility. It is one of Gus Van Sant's strong films, and will continue to shine for his credentials. Milk is a movie well beyond its means, and is well worth all its received due rewards.
