Review of Midsommar (2019) by Redphone — 24 Mar 2020
I watched this after hearing people online talk about how it was the best horror of the year. I was disappointed. The visuals are stunning, the cinematography was beautiful, and the acting was great but the actual story was meh.
The characters weren’t well developed outside of the lead and it relied too much on the concept of ‘foreign cultures are different and therefore scary’ instead of being scary. ...Also, I cannot imagine the cult will last long by bringing people from other countries with passports where government will notice when they don’t return (they ask how long you will be staying for a reason) and loved ones who will probably know roughly where they were going.
