Review of Midnight Special (2016) by Russ B — 15 Aug 2017
Well written, great visuals and superbly acted, this is an intriguing piece of storytelling that engages you from the very start and keeps you guessing as to what is going on. The characters predicament is front and centre here and Nichols has told the story almost to perfection, but his directing style often leaves you with more questions than answers, with the explanation to certain aspects of the plot being intentionally vague, at best.
For some, this will be frustrating to no end, particularly when it comes to the ending; for others, it'll be part of the charm. Which way you tend to lean will probably determine how much you like the film.
