Review of Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 (2008) by Simon T — 07 Mar 2010
In a nutshell: Gangster No1 meets Prison Break (in French).
Weaker 2nd half of the Mesrine Biopic, in which the French "public enemy no1" continues to relentlessly pull off bank jobs and prison breaks, spending life on the run, yet increasingly still finds time for interviews with the press to keep up his media profile, and cultivate an image as a loveable gentleman thief and daring revolutionary, as opposed to the reality that he was a dangerous egomaniac.
Not as interesting and compelling as the first, as Mesrine's life becomes rather predictable, but still an impressive performance from Cassel.
