An unusual apocalyptic film divided in two parts. In the first, a sister supports the other during her psychologically troubling wedding. In the second, the parts invert as the other helps her sister with a daunting and inevitably approaching Armageddon.

Von Trier, as usual, looks to defy the conventions that are identified with genre films, in this case taking on with his own original psichodramatic vision the end of the world. The characters aren't ver likeable, but the situations are still interesting.

Nevertheless, the real wonder of cinematography and effects take place in its absolutely stunning zeitgeist opening sequence and the shockingly beautiful ending, along with some truly majestic score orchestration.
