Review of Mean Streets (1973) by Colin Y — 31 Jan 2014
A pretty early scorsese and a different gangster flick. There are no big thugs here. This feels like a very realistic film that deals with several half crooks.
The acting is very good and you won't be bored when watching this feature of the film. The problem is that the story is not very engaging, the plot is not all that. Small crooks in "Little Italy" doing their things in a non provoking way.
Great one-liners, but there is no truly great happenings here. It does not stand the test of time so well either.
The characters tend to drone on an on, and that's not very interesting in the long run.
Not a bad film, but I was left very disappointed. The entertainment value is mediocre at most.
6 out of 10 bar fights.
