Altman's masterpiece in my opinion. I've always said that the 70's in Hollywood was a renaissance for the director as 'auteur'. This film joins a long list of excellence from that decade of cinema in America.
The concept of the 'anti-hero' is beautifully realised in Beatty's performance, and in Altman's taut direction. There are so many memorable scenes, that it should be considered a true classic.
