Review of McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) by Anthony I — 01 Apr 2016
That man never killed anybody.
A small western mining town doesn't have much going for it other than a county renowned bar and brothel run by a former prostitute and her reluctant, but over confident, male business partner. A group tries to purchase the bar but the male business partner tries to drive up the price but may lose the business in the process.
"I suppose a whore is the only kind of woman I'd know.".
Robert Altman, director of Mash, Gosford Park, Short Cuts, The Player, Cookie's Fortune, Kansas City, The Gingerbread Man, Ready to Wear, and Fool for Love, delivers McCabe & Mrs. Miller. The storyline for this picture is unique and well told but a bit bland and doesn't contain much action. I did enjoy the conclusion and the acting was very solid. The cast includes Warren Beatty, Shelley Duvalle, Julie Christie, William Devane, Rene Auberjonois, and Keith Carradine.
"I know what I'm doing.".
This was recommended to me by Verizon Fios so I decided to DVR it off a random cable channel. The film was better than average and the plot was pretty interesting. I really liked the ending. This has some unique elements that make it worth a viewing but unfortunately falls short of being a classic.
"If a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his ass so much.".
Grade: C+.
