Review of McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) by Roger T — 06 Oct 2012
I was very hesitant about this movie as the first 10 or 15 minutes played out. I thought it was kind of dull and visually flat/ugly but as things moved along I found myself incredibly invested in the goings on of this little town and really enjoyed how things proceeded.
Beatty is pretty fantastic here and I love all of his ridiculous sayings but sadly Mrs. Miller (Christie) is kind of an afterthought here. Their relationship is actually the least interesting thing going on in the movie and as a result the ending is a bit hollow despite the entertaining ride to get there.
