Review of Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993) by Guy G — 06 Nov 2011
This is one where Diane Keaton had to replace Mia Farrow at the last second. That alone throws off the weight of the movie, since it is not an especially notable Allen movie, even if it is one of his better older-age-Allen movies. The shooting style is too quick and dirty -- it feels like Woody worked out the script to his liking but essentially rushed through the production (which is odd since I would guess he likes the process of movie-making, and he was sure as hell familiar with it at this point in his career).
Anyway, this is an okay one. There are a couple masterpieces in his body of work, and there are some to run away from screaming. Most, like this one, are in between.
