Review of Mandy (2018) by Mark T — 08 Oct 2018
Mandy is a film tailor-made for Nicklos Cage, I just want to get that out of the way, this film doesn't ask for attention it demands it, hell it takes it by force, Panos Cosmatos, the director mixes a special blend of polarising visual mastery, he shapes this sinister presence that will follow you throughout the film, all of that paired with ominous music by the late Johan Johansson creates this gonzo-mayhem fueled by pure rage and revenge and there's no other person that can deliver at that level other than Nick Cage, he takes his character to a whole other level with his insane approach to acting, he materializes those crazy emotions in a jarring way.
So here's the thing, Mandy isn't perfect, far from it actually, it's a beautiful concoction of weird imagery that will absolutely haunt you, I have to say that this is probably the closest I'm gonna get to experiencing LSD, certainly not for all, it takes a very open mind to appreciate this.
