Review of Manderlay (2005) by Brian B — 16 Jul 2007
Manderlay is a good film, however I don't think it holds a candle to Dogville. Perhaps I would have liked it more if I hadn't see Dogville, and definately if this wasn't a sequel to the film.
It really bothered me that none of the charactors from Dogville that are also in Manderlay were played by the same actor, and yet some of the actors who played charactors in Dogville play different charactors in Manderlay.
Also I didn't find the story nor the charactors as interesting as those in Dogville, perhaps because I like charactors more evil, and the charactors in Manderlay had more good than those in Dogville.
Manderlay is still worth seeing, however if you loved Dogville like I did, you shall probably be disappointed. Overall 2.5/4 Stars Grade = B.
