Saw this on 21/2/15.
The film remains perfect for it's entire first half and Paul Thomas Anderson is still an interesting director, but as it moves on to it's second half, Magnolia gets over sentimental, lacking in pace and slightly disappoints with it's final act. Magnolia's pacing on it's first half is the best thing about it where the director efficiently uses his ensemble cast and cuts out from individual stories at pivotal points to create a much needed hype. However, on it's second half, Anderson gives more time to individual characters and does not use the fast cuts which hackened the pace a lot. Despite of all these, the cast still provided marvelous performances throughout the end, most remarkable of them being Tom Cruise. Much like in his film Boogie Nights, the director fails to find ample screen time for Philip Seymour Hoffman, especially in the second half.
