Review of Magnolia (1999) by Elijah B — 20 Oct 2011
I felt like Magnolia could have been epic, but sadly fell apart towards the end, when the director resorted to regular melodrama after promises of something deeper, and altogether more relevant. What is there to say, really.
It's a fine film that you won't regret seeing, it's just that you wouldn't have regretted not seeing it, either; something that can't be said about Anderson's later works. He clearly gained more skill and confidence as an artist.
This is his learning tool.
