Review of Magnificent Obsession (1935) by Irvin C — 01 Jan 2009
A rather magnificent film to kick off the new year. I loved "All That Heaven Allows" and it turns out the magical combo of Rock Hudson, Jane Wyman and director Sirk wasn't a one-time thing.
An arrogant playboy (Hudson) tries to make amends to a widow (Wyman) after he indirectly caused her husband's death and later blinds her. They end up falling in love. Beautifully acted and quite moving without an ounce of phoniness about it.
