Review of Magnificent Obsession (1935) by Mardi T — 18 Apr 2008
A beautiful and touching film that cannot fail to soften your heart. An adaptation of Llyod C. Douglas' novel, the movie portrays a young millionaire who has yet to seek purpose or love in his life until his reckless behaviour causes untold sadness.
They really do not make stars like Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman anymore. And I must agree with another reviewer here, there is something about that scene in which Rock Hudson is preparing for surgery. Surely he is the epitome of the perfect male. But I digress...
There is an earlier film from 1935 with Robert Taylor and Irene Dunne (equally as solid and highly recommended too).
