Review of Macbeth (2015) by Yehia C — 09 Oct 2015
Taking on Shakespeare can always be a dilemma. Firstly it has been done before many times. Secondly I guess the choice is whether to be faithful or try for a 'modern' approach. In the end is it bringing something new.
This most recent rendition of the Scottish play doesn't bring anything new to be table. In reality it is rather a conventional take by Australian director Justin Kurzel. But I believe it was worthwhile because of the two main actors involved.
I sincerely believe that Fassbender and Cotillard are the two finest actors on Earth today. It is their craft and magnetism that make this film so watchable. It is a gritty, bloody take on Macbeth with a great score and the wilds of Scotland providing an ominous backdrop to the poetry of the bard.
Greed and regret never looked or sounded quite so good.
