Review of Macbeth (2015) by Christian M — 10 Oct 2015
Dark, visceral and utterly compelling, Justin Kurzel's Macbeth is hands down the best Shakespearian live action adaptation. The terrific camera work and superb almost nordic music combine with ease and create wonderful tension.
Michael Fassbender is fantastic playing the tormented king who starts to lose his grip on sanity and Marion Cotillard gives a phenomenal and haunting performance as Lady Macbeth. Having said this, I must admit I could only ever watch this film once maybe twice more, it's a picture that redefines the uniqueness in film that for me personally it only needs a few viewings.
It's such a shame that this and Sicario were released in the same year because like Sicario everything is Oscar worthy. Macbeth is cinematic art at the highest level.
