Review of M (1931) by Wes M — 12 Apr 2011
Another noir masterpiece. This is the oldest movie I have seen, and it's easily one of the coolest. This is arguably the first "police procedural" film, and it helped to invent and poplularize the genre .
I found it amazing that a movie this old could still be so relevant, 80 years later. It's bout a child murderer/molester, and how the cops, townspeople, and fellow criminals go about trying to catch him and judge him.
Lots of social commentary and ethical questions can be raised by this film. Also, the director, Fritz Lang, majorly influenced 100s of movies and directors (many of the same camera angles and styles you see in Citizen Kane are first shown in this film!) AND, you can see the influences still used in modern films, like Se7en and Zodiac (I highly recommend those too).
So yeah, go see this :].
