Review of Lust for Life (1956) by Jack G — 20 Oct 2008
This film in itself is like a portrait of the artist as a tortured man. A tremendous knowledge about art went into this film. It so rich in visual imagery and the second part of the film that is spectacular is the cinematography.
The scenery of the film tries to recreate Van Gogh's paintings and it's great to watch. Also, Kirk Douglas IS Vincent Van Gogh, which I think he should have won an oscar for. He really captures the very essence of the intense and troubled artist with such great force and conviction.
In fact all the acting in the film is flawless. It's one of the best artist biographies ever put to film. This had become one of my favorites and I firmly believe that is deserves repeated viewings.
