Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by Jillian L — 09 Feb 2012
So, honestly, I don't understand why people didn't like this movie. I really liked it. I went in expecting crap, because everyone told me it was, but shocker, I thought it was great. Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal have great chemistry (no surprise there) Hathaway is fantastic as Maggie.
There is always that movie where the girl is afraid of commitment, but this was completely different. The disease just puts a totally new spin on everything and the Parkinson's "un"-convention in the middle of the movie nearly broke my heart.
Anyway, Jake Gyllenhaal was great as well, really showing the changes he has a character went through. And the scene near the end where he professes his love to the girl and she doesn't want to listen, but his words are really cute and meaningful and she finally says yes (every rom-com has one) was freaking adorable.
I even teared up. One of the best I've see in a while And Josh Gad, as Jamie's brother Josh, was gross, rude, and hilarious. Yes, there was a lot of sex. Oh well, don't be so prude. Also, that was the point, that at the beginning, their relationship was based solely on sex, but then it developed.
Also, this movie also comments on drug dependency in America, and how we rely on pills to solve our every problem. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. Just thought I would throw that in there.
