Review of Cavemen (2013) by Chris B — 12 Nov 2014
Cavemen is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. Let us start with the script. The entire plot revolves around our protagonist, who is trying to make it as a screenwriter. Cliche aside, this only works if the movie itself has a strong script, otherwise we as an audience just don't buy it.
Frankly, the script is painful. From the opening sequence where we are introduced to stock characters from the world of sitcoms, to the ending montage that tells us where all of the characters end up in a year, everything is predictable, cheesy and overdone.
Then we have the issue of subpar acting. The characters may be poorly written, but everyone aside from the lead character, portrayed by Skylar Astin, feel like they are just going through the motions.
There is absolutely no chemistry between the love interests. Finally, you have the production values, which are abysmal. The direction is not only bad when it comes to emotional sequences, but the director does not have any spatial sense, confusing the viewer as they watch characters jump from one location to another.
I feel like I could show this movie in a filmmaking class as what not to do when making a romantic comedy. This film is only remarkable for showing us where Chad Michael Murray has shown up post One Tree Hill.
1 out of 5 stars.
