Review of Love & Other Drugs (2010) by Filmgrinder S — 05 Feb 2014
I saw this a while back and I thought that it was a fairly decent rom-com, though I found too much going on and it was a bit manic and over the place at times. Still I'm a fan of Anne Hathaway and she always gives a really good performance. The story is about Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal), a womanising pharmaceutical salesman who falls in love with fun loving and free-spirited Maggie (Anne Hathaway), who suffers from early onset Parkinson's disease. Maggie tries hard not to fall for Jamie out of fear that he will leave her because of her illness. It is a moving film, though still a bit cheesy and typical Hollywood style rom-com. Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal have good chemistry, though I found them a bit manic sometimes, especially the sex scenes. I've never liked Jake G, but in this he's charming and emotive and quote hot! I think the film focuses on different things; one minute it focuses on the romance then viagra. It's a decent flick but a bit too clichéd and unrealistic. How many of us girls get the hot womanising guy who is willing to change his ways and falls madly in love with us. I sound a bit bitter, but it's all been done before. Worth a watch though! It's a decent film, though a tad forgettable if I must admit, still it's better than most Hollywood garbage.
Grade: B-.
