Review of Love & Mercy (2015) by David L — 30 Jan 2017
A bio pic with an unconventional structure compliments the originality and authenticity of a musical artist who elevated popular music. At times repetitive and thin, other times profound and nuanced, L&M sends home a solid love letter in the story of Brian Wilson. The film is less about the career of the Beach Boys and more about the fight of depressive illness and interpersonal forgiveness.
Jon Cusak and Elizabeth Banks portray Love and Mercy without overselling it.
