It's not a conventional biopic which is just the what you'd expect in a movie portraying the legendary Brian Wilson. The non-linear approach works, but it took a while for me to warm up to Paul Dano playing a young wilson and John Cusack playing the older version.
Once you realize the two meld together the movie works. If you understand that the duo may actually be playing down Wilson it's hard to believe. Elizabeth Banks as Wilson's later in life love interest and Paul Giamatti as Wilson's doctor lead an exquisite supporting cast.
Giamatti is fantastic playing a roll he is made for. If Wilson himself say the movie is too real then who am I to disagree. Final Score: 8.4/10.
