Review of Lost in Translation (2003) by Harreld D — 12 Nov 2012
A fine stride forward for Coppola after her "Virgin Suicides," the film is a perfect cipher that allows a lot of viewer-imbued meaning in resolving the film. Watching Murray in a role that is serious in spite of comic elements (perhaps as much so as his much earlier "Razor's Edge"), and seeing Scarlett Johansson match and harmonize so well with him? It almost makes one want to have a quasi-fling in a faraway place with an uncertain outcome and heaps of ennui mixed in with the jouissance.
Taipei, anyone?
