Review of Lord of the Flies (1963) by Justin V — 02 Jun 2010

Its bad but it lives up to the book in a sense. I really thought the acting in this film was very very poor and mediocre. The Cinematography was just terrible it had some nice shots but the panning and time of the actors to deliver their lines are either off or do not work with the shot.

I thought some scenes were awkward and out of place but in the book they work. That is the issue with film and books how to transfer a good book and make it a good movie without relying on the author to tell what happens to show what happens through the scene.

The one major thing that irritated me was the "Lord of the Flies" Pig Head Scene. It was just Simon looking at the pig head and the hunters didn't even illustrate what the pig head was supposed to do, they didn't have Simon believe it was talking or anything it was dumb and useless in the film and it made me mad that they cut it.

Overall it has many bad things but it stays as true as possible to the book. Bad film but an alright adaption of the book.
